El Gouna had started as one man’s search to find the most beautiful spot on the seaside to build a house and small boat jetty.

Twenty five years ago Samih Sawiris, chairman of Orascom Development, El Gouna’s parent company, found that beautiful spot, conveniently located just north of Hurghada on the west coast of the Red Sea. It wasn’t long before Sawiris’ friends, struck by the splendor of the azure waters and dramatic backdrop of mountains, asked to join him, and the town slowly blossomed into the vibrant community that it is today.

BEACHES AND POOLS
Whether you’re curious to try out a pool or beach different than your hotel’s, or are renting an apartment and want to know where to go for a swim. All of El Gouna’s beaches and pools are not just swimming destinations, but complete with music, food and an overall idyllic beach ambience.

GOLF AT EL GOUNA
Both of El Gouna's 18-hole championship courses boast year round golfing in settings where players can feast their eyes on stunning mountains and endless sea views.

Carefully placed bunkers, lagoons, and desert rough, the course is designed with every level of golfer in mind, from the beginner to the advanced golfer playing the tournament circuit.

WATER SPORTS
Edged by miles of beaches and azure lagoons, El Gouna attracts aqua sport aficionados by the score. Go snorkeling, fishing, or try out one of the many other water sports El Gouna has on offer.

Sea Cinema was opened during the first edition of El Gouna Film Festival.
